Living Life in Quarantine Day #1

During the virus outbreak I have been informing myself with what both NZ and Australia have been doing to stop the spread. It came to my attention that Australia would not support me financially once we were in lockdown. NZ had gone into total lockdown and were limiting flights to essential workers only. I had been having some asthma flare ups and decided I should go home.

Having left early in the morning and only 30 people on the flight, we were escorted off in groups of 10. We were taken to medical personal who asked where we would be living and how we felt. I expressed my concern of breathing issues and that I would be staying at home with my parents who are also high risk.

I was then taken to a testing room and swabbed. It is not a test I would like to do again in the future. Myself and another woman were taken to a hotel. We are to isolate here for 14 days whether or not the test comes back negative or positive.

I can liken it to a 14 day, 5 star jail sentence. We order our food the day before. It gets delivered to us and placed in front of door to avoid cross contamination. We are allowed packages sent to the hotel but they are checked by police. If we want to go outside we are escorted by medical staff and of course masked up. I have been here all of 24 hours and I would love a walk around!

The approach NZ is taking is very aggressive as this is a very serious time. I am very impressed at this approach as it shows just how much we care about our fellow Kiwis. 🥝

Right now I sit in my room with the view of a packing yard with tween Sunday afternoon movies on trying to plan work for the next two weeks with the most average internet connection.

The lesson is never take life and free will for granted. It will be a testing time and pretty difficult to say the least.

I have made a daily schedule of times and things I need to get accomplished. Certain times allocated for work, learning, exercise, mind work. This will be a journey. It is not about me, it is about keeping everyone else safe!
